Passive Infrared (PIR) Sensors

element14 provides a wide range of PIR sensors from leading manufacturers, including Panasonic, Murata, Kemet, and many more. These sensors feature a sensing range of 2 m to 17 m, beam angles ranging from 37 degrees to 360 degrees, and response times ranging from 3 to 300 seconds.

Passive Infrared (PIR) sensors are widely used in building automation for motion detection, surveillance, and automatic lighting applications. These sensors work by comparing the temperature emitted by an object with that of its surroundings, allowing it to accurately detect presence in a given area. When activated, this type of sensor performs a calibration to assess the environment and determine the radiation levels of the objects present.

The motion sensor performs a pulse at set intervals (an adjustable parameter) to check for changes in conditions. If a significant change in radiation variation is detected, it generates an electrical output.
